My mornings here in Kenya are so sacred.
They were always sacred to me but I got lost in the world’s expectation of what life should look like.
Wake up, rush to a fitness class, get ready for work, eat breakfast on the run or skip it completely, back to back meetings, squeeze in some lunch, teach yoga, giving, giving, giving, get home exhausted.
Rinse + repeat.
Get to the weekend, jam pack all of your errands, social gatherings, shopping, catching up with family, house work, work side hustles.
Does that feel familiar?
What a wake up call that was 2020. Never in my wildest dreams would I have been shown what a crazy life we were living. It’s like the universe tapped me on the shoulder and said “hey – this is no way to live your life.”
Sure I had the flexibility to travel, move around the world freely and juggle my businesses but god damn I was f**king busy and exhausted.
My yoga practice + self care rituals existed to keep me afloat. Almost like a bandaid fix to cover up the endless outgoings of energy.
Can anyone else relate?
Now this year is here for us to create from a blank slate. What do you want your life to look like? Are you going to resume the normal pace like before the pandemic? What are you going to take from your learnings of this global pause?
I’ve learnt my energy is a precious resource. I’ve also learnt that my health is the most valued currency I own. And I’m going to fiercely protect them both this year.
That means saying no.
That means putting up boundaries.
That means putting my health first.
That means protecting my energy.
That means letting go of things that no longer serve me.
This can be a scary process when you’ve always been a yes woman.
It takes time.
Slowly but surely.
You can reclaim your power.
