When it comes to travelling, I’m no stranger with enjoying a little luxury along the way. Despite the fact I spend a lot of my adventures in boutique luxury hotels, some of my favourite experiences are spent outdoors with nature.
Last month, my girlfriend Stef and I spent four nights at Garden Village Bled in Slovenia. This special trip was nothing like I’ve ever experienced before. Once I stepped into the grounds of the Village resort, I felt like I stepped into my eco-luxe heaven.
Perfectly perched on the bank of a flowing river, the Garden Village glamping tents and tree houses look like they are part of the naturally forming environment. At night you can hear the trickle of the water running past your bed and there are so many little touches that make this resort so unique. Here are just a few reasons why you need to visit Garden Bled Village:
Garden Bled Village resort is a hop, skip and a jump from the famous Lake Bled. You can walk, bike ride or drive to the lake in minutes, which makes it perfect for exploring Bled and the surrounding areas. As the resort is tucked neatly away from the Lake, it’s always super peaceful and quiet.
Oh. My. God. Where do I start? I was totally blown away by the Glamping accomodation that Stef and I shared, I literally could have moved in. The luxury tent had two double beds; one on the lower ground and one on a mezzanine level, a bathroom, living area, dining table and a outdoor hot tub. Doesn’t sound too shabby does it?
In addition to the 6 glamping tents, there are also 6 tree houses, 9 pier tents and 2 luxury apartments to choose from. The pier tents are camped by the river and the tree houses are nestled in the trees above.
If you are ok with sharing a bathroom and on more of a budget, the pier tent is the option for you. However, I did hear that the river is very loud at night if you are a light sleeper. The tree houses also looked super cool but I think out of all the options, the glamping tent is my favourite.
The edible garden is pretty self explanatory. But who doest love picking an apple or some strawberries from your own garden on holidays? I definitely do. The entire grounds is made up of vegetable patches and fruit vines that can all be eaten at your leisure. You can see the staff walking around the gardens, picking supplies for the restaurant which is pretty damn cool.
From grass covered tables to four different types of non dairy milks (yep – almond, oat, rice and soy), the Garden Village restaurant was right up my organic and sustainable alley.
Stef and I enjoyed dining at the restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner – we couldn’t get enough of their amazing dishes. Each time we were greeted with a smile from the friendly staff and some of their organic wine. The menu only uses local ingredients and was super fresh and light. Think edible flowers, fish caught in the river and salads picked from their own garden.
Our favourite dining spot was a floating table that was joined to the main deck by a little bridge. It was probably for honeymooner’s but we thought it was just divine.
Keeping with the eco vibe, instead of a chlorine filled swimming pool, there is a naturally occurring outdoor living pool. The living pool is made up of fresh clean running water from the river with living organisms and a resident frog called Gilbert. A little colder than your average pool as the water source was from the mountains, but alas it was a very refreshing way to cool off from the 35 degree summer heat.
Along with the private outdoor hot tubs, the resort boasted an all wooden sauna and a wellness deck for a touch of pampering. Listening to the trickle of the river while indulging in a massage is my kinda of way to spend an afternoon.
Everything at Garden Bled Village made my heart sing! I wanted to stay so much longer in this gorgeous village. The resort was the epitome of a Wood and Luxe escape. Would I go back? Of course. I am in the process of planning an active escape next year to Garden Bled Village so make sure you are signed up to my newsletter for updates. Here is a sneak peak of some of the active things we would get up to. Think yoga, sauna, bike riding, horse riding and an optional glass of organic wine.
To get to Garden Village Bled, you can fly directly to Ljubljana from London followed a 30 minute transfer into Lake Bled.
