Located in the upscale neighbourhood of Lärkstaden in Stockholm, Ett Hem is your luxury home-away-from-home boutique hotel. The grand multi level townhouse inconspicuously sits on the corner of two residential streets, with passersby unaware what the inside beholds. Only to press the buzzer on the gate and be granted access by the staff, will you truly understand the jewels that lie within.
The interior designs have graced the pages of many coffee table design books with owner Jeanette Mix’s edit of design staples and vintage finds. She has created something truly unique and decadent yet unpretentious at the heart.
On entering the boutique hotel, your senses are pleasantly introduced to the hotel’s bespoke fragance. As your stay unfolds, I can guarantee you will fall in love with the Woody yet floral fragrance, so much that you want to purchase a bottle before you leave.
Being on the smaller end of a boutique hotel, Ett Hem houses 12 beautifully appointed rooms including 7 suites. Between marble and brass bathroom ensembles, large vases of freshly arranged flowers and carefully picked artworks, staying at this hotel will leave a lasting impression. Each room has an individual personality, yet the overall style sits together as a uniform family.
The ethos of the Ett Hem kitchen is locally sourced seasonal food, anytime of the day. The chef carefully curates an edited ingredients list for the week that guests get to choose from, breakfast, lunch or dinner. There is a freshly baked cake every afternoon for anyone that gets the nibbles, or large glass jars of nuts for the more health conscious. For any time of the day, expect to be blown away by the creativity and wholesomeness of the dishes. Sitting in the open plan kitchen, it feels like you have a private chef in the comfort of your own home.
Situated on the ground floor, the elegant aesthetic of the lounge area evokes understated opulence yet the dimmed lights invite you to sit and stay for a while. Pour yourself a wine at the brass honesty bar, borrow a book from the floor to ceiling library or practice your rendition of Für Elise at the black grand piano. If vinyls are more to your liking, a wide selection is available for your enjoyment.
After a day meandering through the sights of Stockholm, you can soak away your sins in one of the devine bathtubs. In both of the suites, the marble bathtubs are fit for a queen and the stand alone tub in the mezzanine room exudes nothing but relaxation.
My favourite spot in the house is the plant filled adjoining green house. Its a light filled oasis which automatically transports you to a state of zen. Breakfast is served here on a long wooden share table with views out onto the blooming Cherry Blossoms. Enjoy your breakfast, or sink into the comfortable sofa with a cup of tea. I think every hotel should have a greenhouse – don’t you?
Last but not least, I can’t forget to highlight the underground wellness escape. Fitted with state of the art fitness equipment, including a pilates reformer machine, the humble space has everything you need for a modest workout. In addition, the wellness area has a traditional Swedish sauna and a hot stone slab where you can relax post workout. Personal trainers and body treatment specialists can also be arranged.
Expect something different when you stay at Ett Hem. The house’s encompassing warmth will have you arriving as a guest, and leaving as part of the family. The laid-back Swedish hospitality you’ll receive at Ett Hem will leave you planning your next visit before you have even left.
Room rates start at £350. For more information visit the Ett Hem website.
