Last month I was treated to a weekend away in Germany at BollAnts Wellness Hotel. Set on the riverbank of the Nahe, and just one hour outside of Frankfurt, the hotel offers a balance of wellness and relaxation. The BollAnts establishment has been family run for over 110 years and is a renown oasis for recovery and wellness. Whether you are after a foray of daily spa treatments or just some peace and quiet, BollAnts creates a sanctuary to unwind from life’s daily stresses. Here are a few highlights from the trip:
No matter where I visit in the world, my favourite room or suite is always going to be a little bit of wood and a little bit of luxe. The Spa Lodges at BollAnts Hotel would have to be my favourite choice of all the rooms on offer. Just a short walk from the main hotel, the spa lodges have their own private open air whirlpool and outdoor shower. With wide view across the Naheland, these lodges are suited for couples or guests looking for a little more privacy and seclusion.
Whether you want a guided walk around the local area or a personal training session in the gym overlooking the river, you have a wide choice of facilities and wellness programs on offer at BollAnts. Lauren and I started each day at the gym before feasting on a long leisurely breakfast at the Villa restaurant. Order your own style of eggs at the omelette station or choose from an array of local and continental dishes with a view overlooking the pool below.
The quality of food was so fresh and delicious, that meal time was one of our favourite times during the stay. If you want the nutella and prosecco, it’s here for you too. No need to think you’re coming to a health farm, balance is a key philosophy at BollAnts so you can have your cake and eat it too.
You wont be bored for choice at BollAnts Hotel with six different steam rooms and saunas to choose from. You can start with the steam bath at 45 degrees celsius or if you’re feeling courageous, try the Hubertus Sauna on the edge of the forest which can reach temperatures of 90 degrees celsius. I would have to say this was by far my favourite experience, as you can feed the local deer from inside the sauna via a tube to outside. Just be prepared that no swimsuits are required in the sauna as German’s prefer sweating a la natural.
From medicinal clay steam baths to therapeutic fasting, you can definitely have a top to toe experience at BollAnts Spa. We were treated to some “vinotherapy” which from the sounds of it includes wine. Well, it does include the grapes. We were scrubbed from head to toe with a grape extract which is great for circulation and exfoliation. We also tried out a medicinal clay steam bath where we given a pot of clay each to cover ourselves in before rinsing it off in the steam room. The treatment involves continuous rubbing of the clay to keep it activated. I can say my skin had never felt better after these two treatments, just be aware you will be completely naked.
There is not reason to leave the hotel with three restaurants under the one roof. My highlight of the stay was the Michelin star restaurant Jungborn. You can find the intimate restaurant underneath a sandstone arch build at the foot of the mountain which use to be home to a wine cellar. It’s cosy, warm and inviting. The creative combinations of fresh local produce and international flair results in exquisite plates of mouth watering moments. Vegetarian friendly on request, you will not be disappointed with this unique experience.
BollAnts Hotel can be reached from London via Frankfurt-Hahn airport which is 35 minutes by car or from Frankfurt airport which will take approximately 1 hour. Double room prices start at 159 euros per night which include half board, access to the wellness areas and daily activity program. For more info, please visit the Bollants website.
