How to ask your fans a question on Facebook

A great and simple way to engage your fans on Facebook is to ask them what they think about a wide range of topics. As a business Facebook page you can ask something as simple as “what colour towels you would like to see in store next?”

Whatever you want to ask, the Facebook Questions App makes it super easy to do.

1. First you need to select the Offer/Event tab where you update your status.

Step1

2. Enter your question & suggested answers in the relevant fields. Make sure you tick the “allow anyone to add options” option if you would like your fans to suggest other answers to your question. step2

3. Post and wait for your fans to vote. Step3

Asking your fans to help you with your product ordering or service offering is a great way to involve your customers with the growth of your business.

Tips for higher Facebook engagement

like-image

Do you want your Facebook posts to have one thousand likes and one thousand comments? Check out the few quick tips below on how to receive higher engagement from your Facebook posts:

  • Content should be lightweight and easy to “like” or easy to engage with.
  • Copy should be 16 words or less. More than 16 words, the message can be lost and is harder to engage with. Short & sweet is the key.
  • You should be storytelling not broadcasting your brand or business. Create content that tells are story, shares a moment or connects with your audience. Don’t just re-post your advertising creative and expect your fans to engage with your post. They are humans, they want to have a human interaction.
  • If you include a call to action, it needs to always be in the first 90 characters.

How to get your facebook post featured

Example facebook post

how to get your post featured in the news feed

So you can write a good post, but can you get your customers to engage with your post?

Facebook is a machine of its own and they never really share the secrets of  how the algorithms work.  Here are a few tricks to help get your post featured higher in your customer’s news feeds.

Tricks for engagement:

  • Upload a photo or video- Images can tell a thousand words. Images are what customers want to see. They want to be inspired and have something to look at. This is one of the reasons why the social photo sharing platforms- Instagram and pinterest are becoming so popular.
  • Suggest them to “like” the post or comment as part of your post. Sometimes customers need a bit of encouragement to interact with your brand.
  •  “like” posts are often great for engagement. The more likes a post gets, the higher the likeliness it is featured higher in their news feed.  I always create a like post once a day to entice fans to interact with our brands.
  •  Add a link back to your website (this creates a new flow of traffic to your website). Give your customers somewhere to go after they have read the post. Let them engage with your brand longer and sell them into your story.
No more posts getting lost with the million and one updates. Get your customers to engage with your posts today and it’s more likely to be featured.

How to write a good post

social media tips, writing, post, twitter, hashtags,

A great message can be lost in the delivery, so I’ve jotted down a few tips on how to write a good post for your social media channels.

  • Keep it short & be succinct. I like to only have one sentence, two sentences max. No one comes to facebook or twitter to read a paragraph of info. That’s what books are for.
  • Use everyday language & don’t be too formal. Write as you would talk to a friend. Fans want to relate to you or your brand and you want to develop a relationship with them. Let your personality shine through.
  • Make it interesting & give people a reason to read, share and engage.
  • Be timely. Social Media is about the ‘now’. If you’re too late, don’t post it.
  • Avoid ‘txt speak’ and jargon. Only use accepted abbreviations such as incl, excl.
  • Don’t be repetitive or vague. Keep posts unique from the last few you made, and explain the content, especially if you’re posting a URL.
  • Watch your punctuation. Keep the !’s to a minimum and always use sentence case.
  • Turn off automatic Twitter updates from Facebook. Keep the post to 140 characters or less and post to Twitter manually (even if directing to a post on Facebook).
  • Avoid multiple Twitter #hashtags in a post. Keep it to one or two if you include one and make sure it’s relevant to the whole post. (Except on instagram. On Instagram you can hash-tag for your life. The more you hash-tag here, the more your photos will turn up in the search results)

Last but not least, have fun and don’t take yourself too seriously.

Insta- what? The new Social Media Platform.

Another day, another Social Media (SM) platform. And like any other successful SM platform- content is KING. What better way to get people to have rich beautiful and inspiring posts- by enabling a photo-only, smartphone-only application. Say hello to instagram or you could call it stalk-a-gram.

Instagram allows users to upload photos into a square box followed by adding photographic treatments to the photos. From the Earlybird filter to X-pro II you can turn your holiday snaps into jaw dropping million dollar photos. Say goodbye to fuzzy street snaps and say hello to the next Bill Cunningham. Not only are the social geeks and every day peeps jumping on the insta-bandwagon, the celebs are loving it too. So to all those Lara Bingle stalkers and amateur photographers, this one is your baby.

Of course like all SM platforms, you can link your posts to Facebook and Twitter to show just how ah-mezing your photography skills are to all your friends. And the bragging rights begin again.

You can tag other users in your photos, “like” them and also leave comments. Hash-tagging is also very popular when uploading to the insta-verse. I like searching instagram for topics, subjects or places that I’m interested in. Type “travel” into the tags search bar and BOOM 214,905 awesome cool travel pics at my disposal. I think my google image search days are limited.

You can follow your favourite designers, fashionistas, foodies, friends or your mum. Download the app and get snapping today. In the words of Instagram, it’s photo sharing re-invented.

Here’s a snap-shot of how it works.
